Tanis Aircraft Products, now operating as the Tanis brand under Hartzell Engine Technologies, is a US manufacturer of aircraft engine preheat systems based in Glenwood, Minnesota. The company developed electric heating elements that mount directly on engine components — cylinders, oil sump, oil filter, and fuel servo — to provide uniform preheat for piston aircraft engines in cold weather. Tanis preheat systems are FAA-approved via Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for a wide range of Lycoming and Continental piston engines commonly used in general aviation aircraft. The brand has been in operation since the 1980s and is recognized as the leading supplier of installed electric engine preheat systems for general aviation. Hartzell Engine Technologies acquired Tanis to expand its engine accessories portfolio for piston aircraft operators.
