Technical Training (EASA Part 66 / Part 147)
EASA Part 147-approved aircraft maintenance training covering basic licensing and full type ratings across Airbus and Boeing fleets, delivered from three certified centres in Paris, Amsterdam, and Norwich.
AFI KLM E&M's Technical Training division operates as an EASA Part 147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation, meaning it is authorised not only to deliver regulated instruction but to conduct official examinations and issue the certificates of recognition that feed directly into EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licences. Three dedicated training centres — in Paris (AFMAé), Amsterdam, and Norwich — employ 71 instructors across classroom, simulator, and practical environments.
The curriculum runs from entry-level Part 66 Category A and B1/B2 basic programmes through to full type ratings on the major commercial platforms. Aircraft types covered include the A320 family, A330, A380, Boeing 737 (including 737 MAX), 777, and 787, as well as regional types — a breadth made operationally achievable because the Air France-KLM Group's combined active fleet of approximately 400 narrowbody and widebody aircraft plus 200 regional aircraft is available for practical sessions. Students train on in-service aircraft rather than decommissioned training rigs.
Delivery methods span traditional classroom instruction, computer-based training (CBT), web-based training (WBT), virtual training, and fixed-base simulators. This blended model is particularly relevant for operators whose engineering staff cannot be released for extended residential periods — modules can be sequenced to minimise ground time.
For Gulf and Middle East carriers managing large mixed fleets or meeting GCAA, QCAA, or EASA-recognised licence requirements, the ability to send engineers to a single EASA Part 147 organisation covering A380, 777, and 787 type ratings under one contract reduces administrative complexity considerably.
