AVIBATCH Batch Baggage AGV
Autonomous guided vehicle for high-volume batch baggage transport across airport ramp and terminal zones.
AVIBATCH is an automated guided vehicle (AGV) purpose-built to move checked baggage in batches of up to 24 bags per run, eliminating the need for conventional belt conveyors or manual tug trains on long horizontal transfer routes. The vehicle navigates autonomously using a mixed-mode system that combines area reflector guidance with contour-based navigation, enabling accurate trajectory control at varying speeds and in complex shared-traffic environments.
It is deployed where airports need to shift bulk baggage between widely separated points — between terminal zones, from check-in injection to HBS screening, or from screening outfeed to make-up carousels — at a scale that makes individual-bag AGV economics less attractive. The batch approach reduces vehicle cycle counts and fleet size while maintaining throughput.
What distinguishes AVIBATCH from a simple batch conveyor is its operational flexibility: new units can be added to the fleet without system redesign, and individual vehicles can be taken offline for maintenance without stopping operations. Opportunity charging via lithium batteries keeps the fleet running continuously. Load transfer is fast, rated at 15–25 seconds per cycle. The system is controlled through BAGware and OPAL software, with fleet communications over a secured, system-specific protocol.
The vehicles operate in covered outdoor areas and are rated for temperatures from -10 °C to +45 °C, with compliance to the 250-hour BS salt spray standard — making them suitable for the high-ambient, coastal environments typical of GCC airports. A design lifetime of 45,000 operating hours and quick-access components reduce lifecycle cost. Safety laser scanners provide automatic stop and restart if a person enters the safety field.

Use cases.
- ›Long-distance bulk baggage transfer between terminal piers or satellite buildings
- ›Check-in to HBS screening injection on high-volume piers
- ›HBS screening outfeed to make-up area where belt conveyors would require major civil works
- ›Scalable capacity extensions at growing airports without BHS re-engineering
- ›Operations in covered outdoor ramp areas in hot or coastal climates
