APOLLO (IR804L) LED Runway Guard Light
High-intensity LED runway guard light providing alternating yellow flash warning at taxiway–runway intersections to prevent incursion onto active runways.
The APOLLO (ATG part number IR804L) is an elevated LED runway guard light (RGL) — the pair of alternating-flash yellow beacons that ICAO Annex 14 mandates at every taxiway–runway intersection to warn flight crews and ground vehicle operators approaching an active runway hold-short line. RGLs are classified as Configuration A high-intensity fittings under ICAO 5.3.22, providing a conspicuous visual warning that is effective in all ambient conditions including bright daylight and advection fog.
Each RGL installation consists of two APOLLO units positioned on opposite sides of the taxiway, flashing alternately to create the characteristic sweeping amber signal that distinguishes an active runway boundary from other taxiway signage. This configuration is required at all CAT II and CAT III airports and is increasingly adopted at busy CAT I facilities following global runway safety authority recommendations.
The APOLLO uses high-intensity LED technology specifically selected for performance in harsh climatic conditions — the combination of high ambient temperature, solar radiation load, and airborne sand that characterises Gulf airport environments. It operates on a standard 6.6 A series circuit powered through a 100 W isolating transformer, allowing direct integration into existing airfield lighting CCR infrastructure without a dedicated power supply.
Compliance with ICAO Annex 14 Volume 1 Section 5.3.22 Configuration A and CAA CAP 168 confirms the unit meets the specification for international civil airports. The MADS standard reference additionally covers military and dual-use airfield applications.
