FX850C Inset Runway Edge Light

The FX850C (and its wider-runway sibling, the FX850CW) is an inset runway edge light that defines the lateral boundary of the runway surface for pilots during approach, rollout, and departure. Runway edge lights are required on all instrument runways and are critical for maintaining lateral awareness when runway surface markings may be obscured by rain, fog, or blowing sand.
The FX850C is configured for 45-metre runway widths with a 3.5-degree toe angle, while the FX850CW covers 60-metre runway widths at 4.5 degrees. Both variants emit clear (white) light over the bulk of the runway length, transitioning to yellow in the last 600 metres (or last third, whichever is less) to signal the runway end caution zone, with red light at the very end facing back toward the rollout area. An optional omnidirectional optical array is also available, supporting airports where edge light orientation needs to cover multiple access angles.
The fixture protrudes ≤6.0 mm above grade — within FAA Style 3 and ICAO Style 4 requirements — and installs into a 12-inch standard seating pot. It is fully dimmable following the tungsten halogen response curve, compatible with IGBT, ferroresonant, and thyristor CCRs, and rated IP67 for the full -55 °C to +55 °C operating range. LED service life exceeds 60,000 hours.
At high-traffic Gulf airports operating mixed A380 and narrow-body fleets on wide-bodied runway standards, the FX850CW variant directly addresses the 60-metre runway requirement.
