FX852A Inset Taxiway Centreline Light (Straight)
Low-intensity inset LED taxiway centreline fixture engineered for straight taxiway sections under CAT I/II operations.
The FX852A (FAA designation L-852A(L)) is an inset LED taxiway centreline light optimised for straight-section applications at airports operating to CAT I/II minima, supporting RVR down to 1,200 metres. The fixture sits flush with the taxiway surface at just 4.0 mm above grade, eliminating the aircraft-contact risk and foreign-object debris generation associated with elevated fittings.
In service, the FX852A guides flight crews along straight taxiway paths from touchdown to stand, providing bidirectional green or yellow guidance or the cyan colour scheme used on lead-in lines at some larger hubs. It installs into a standard 8-inch IEC seating pot or a 12-inch pot with an adapter ring, making it directly interchangeable with tungsten halogen predecessors on existing airfield wiring.
Procurement engineers favour this model because its fully dimmable LED array closely tracks the response curve of conventional tungsten halogen lamps, meaning legacy constant current regulators — whether thyristor, ferroresonant, or IGBT sinewave type — need no modification. Fail-open monitoring is available, signalling LED array failure to the airfield management system before it becomes a safety issue. The flat lens geometry provides no negative slope, so sand, silt, and standing water do not accumulate in the fixture aperture — a meaningful maintenance advantage at arid, high-dust GCC airfields.
With an LED service life exceeding 60,000 hours, lamp-change intervals extend dramatically compared with halogen equivalents, reducing the frequency of runway closures for maintenance. The operating range of -55 °C to +55 °C covers the full thermal envelope found at Gulf airports.
