The CLX is a handheld explosive trace detector developed by Autoclear's Scintrex Trace division, purpose-built for aviation worker screening, access control, and field security operations where portability and speed are critical. At 1.9 kg and 25 × 17 × 8 cm, it is among the most compact certified ETD instruments available for operational security environments. The CLX operates on Scintrex's proprietary ChemiluxMOS technology — a chemiluminescence-based detection method that avoids the radioactive isotopes required by many IMS-based systems and needs no carrier gases, significantly simplifying logistics, reducing regulatory overhead, and enabling unconstrained deployment in the field or air-side. The instrument analyses both particulate samples collected via high-efficiency swab from contaminated surfaces and vapour collected through an optional external portable sampler, giving operators two distinct sampling modes depending on the threat scenario. ASTM E2520-21 certification validates that the CLX meets the international standard for handheld explosive trace detector performance — the same standard referenced by TSA in its April 2026 mandate for US airport aviation worker screening. In practice this means the CLX is directly qualified for the employee screening programs being implemented at commercial airports to close the non-passenger insider threat gap. The design is rated for rough handling and tough environments, making it equally serviceable in outdoor ramp and checkpoint environments, military patrols, and event perimeter operations. For GCC operators where both aviation worker screening mandates and counter-IED checkpoint requirements converge, the CLX offers a single device that spans both use cases.
