CPLA Compostable Cutlery Set
Industrially compostable CPLA cutlery set for inflight hot-meal service, certified to EN 13432 and FDA food-contact standards.
The Avio-Pack CPLA Compostable Cutlery Set provides airlines with a plant-derived, heat-tolerant alternative to conventional petroleum-based disposable cutlery. CPLA — crystallised polylactic acid — is produced from corn starch or sugarcane feedstocks that are processed through a controlled rapid-heat-and-cool crystallisation cycle, which raises the heat deflection temperature of standard PLA from approximately 55°C to a working range of 85–100°C. This makes CPLA cutlery serviceable for hot meals on aircraft galleys, where standard PLA would soften and deform on contact with a heated casserole or tray. A standard set covers fork, knife, spoon, and coffee stirrer, packed with a salt/pepper sachet and paper napkin in a sealed wrapper for hygienic seat-tray delivery. The cutlery pieces are BPA-free and comply with FDA and DIN food-contact standards; they are certified industrially compostable to EN 13432 and BPI criteria, breaking down to non-toxic organic matter within 90–180 days in controlled composting conditions. This composting pathway gives airline caterers a waste-stream option beyond landfill or incineration, which is relevant where destination-port facilities accept certified compostable waste. For GCC airlines, CPLA cutlery directly addresses EU single-use plastics regulation compliance on European routes and supports voluntary sustainability commitments on GCC-origin sectors. The material performs at the thermal conditions of a typical airline hot-meal service, is visually comparable in rigidity and finish to polystyrene cutlery, and can be supplied in custom colours or with airline branding printed on the wrapper. Avio-Pack manufactures under ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 with FSC-certified packaging and SEDEX social audit compliance, meeting the full suite of major airline catering supplier qualification requirements.
