AV-EAGLE Deployable Solar Runway Light
Hybrid solar/AC deployable runway light developed with Sierra Nevada Corporation for VFR and non-precision IFR operations, delivering over 50 hours of MIRL-equivalent runtime without grid power.
The AV-EAGLE is a deployable solar airfield light developed jointly by Avlite Systems and Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), a US defence prime integrator. It is engineered for rapid-deployment airfield lighting at expeditionary, humanitarian, or degraded-infrastructure sites where no power grid or permanent civil infrastructure exists. The EAGLE provides VFR and non-precision IFR capability with both visible and near-infrared outputs in a single sealed unit. Each EAGLE operates autonomously in dusk-to-dawn or standby mode, but its principal distinction from simpler solar lights is its dual-power architecture: integrated replaceable solar panels cover normal sustained operations, while a high-voltage direct AC feed allows continuous operation when battery reserve is insufficient for extended high-intensity use. Over 50 hours of continuous operation at FAA non-precision MIRL intensity (AC 150/5345-46D, L-861) is achievable without solar or auxiliary charge. Control is via Avlite's AvMesh 2.4 GHz encrypted mesh network. Every EAGLE is simultaneously a receiver and transmitter, extending the mesh range indefinitely across a runway system. Lights can be grouped and intensity-stepped (10/30/100%) from a handheld controller, from the ATC tower, or from an aircraft via VHF with the ALSCMCU interface. This zero-infrastructure radio control is the core capability that differentiates EAGLE from a static solar runway light. For defence aviation buyers in the Gulf region, the EAGLE satisfies expeditionary airfield activation requirements, NVG approach capability, and dual-source power resilience in a certified-compliant package. The MIL-STD-compatible transit packaging integrates with intermodal container logistics and AV-HMALS trailer systems.
