HAPI Helicopter Approach Path Indicator
ICAO, FAA, and STANAG-certified helicopter approach path indicator with patented LED optics, flexible power options, and wireless control for permanent and portable helipad deployments.
The HAPI (Helicopter Approach Path Indicator) is a visual glide-slope guidance system for helicopter final approach, displaying combinations of red and green light to pilots to indicate whether they are above, on, or below the published approach slope. Avlite's HAPI system uses patented LED optics that exceed ICAO Annex 14 Volume 2, FAA AC 150/5390-2C, and NATO STANAG minimum intensity and uniformity requirements, producing the sharpest green/red angular transition achievable with LED technology. The system is available in two base models covering permanent installations and rapidly deployable portable configurations. Permanent mounting uses a standard frangible base; the portable version has retractable legs and a form factor optimised for air transport, enabling quick stand-up at temporary helipads, emergency landing zones, or military forward locations. Both models can accept wireless control via 900 MHz FHSS or 2.4 GHz DSSS, 3-step or 5-step wired current control, or local manual operation. Power supply versatility is a key procurement consideration: the HAPI's low power consumption makes it compatible with solar panel kits, diesel or gas generator sets, battery packs, or direct AC (100–240 VAC). This allows the same unit to serve a permanently powered hospital helipad and a solar-powered remote medevac landing zone. The optional NVG/IR output allows the visible and infrared approach paths to share a single optic. For Gulf operators planning hospital, offshore, or military heliport development, the HAPI addresses the full compliance matrix (civil ICAO/FAA and military STANAG) in a single system, reducing the number of qualified products that need to be stocked and maintained.
