Oven inserts and oven skids are the interface between an aircraft's galley oven and the individual meal trays that need to be heated during inflight service. Driessen manufactures these to the ATLAS galley standard — the dominant trolley and galley insert specification used by most Airbus and Boeing commercial aircraft — ensuring compatibility with the ovens installed across the majority of narrowbody and widebody fleets. The standard oven insert holds 8 aluminium skids (trays) arranged in a rack configuration, with each skid carrying 4 meals: 32 meals total per oven cycle. An extended insert variant accommodates 48 meals, used in high-density economy configurations where the oven is expected to work through larger meal batches. The insert slides into the galley oven as a single loaded unit, allowing galley crew to pre-load meals at the catering unit and transfer them into the aircraft oven as one operation rather than loading individual trays, reducing galley preparation time. Individual skids have an anodised aluminium finish: the anodising creates a hard, smooth interior surface that resists food adhesion, simplifies cleaning, and extends component service life. Individual skid dimensions conform to ATLAS standard (approximately 370 mm × 213 mm × 15.5 mm per tray), ensuring cross-fleet interchangeability. For procurement teams managing large fleets, oven inserts and skids are consumable-adjacent items with high replacement frequency due to mechanical wear, denting, and cleaning erosion. Sourcing them from the trolley platform OEM ensures specification consistency and simplifies the maintenance-release documentation chain.
