The FTS 350i-2 is a medium-intensity aircraft warning light classified to FAA L-864 and ICAO Annex 14 Medium Intensity Type B standards. At just 2.9 lbs, the entire light, controller, and GPS receiver are packaged in a single weatherproof housing — there is no separate controller box consuming space inside the turbine nacelle, which matters when retrofitting into existing installations.

The unit is designed specifically for wind turbines with rotor tip heights below 699 feet, covering the large majority of onshore wind farm builds. It operates at a certified output of 2,000 ±25% effective candela (ECD) in the red spectrum, with field-selectable flash rates of 20 or 30 flashes per minute via a handheld remote controller. Optional infrared LEDs enable compatibility with night vision goggles (NVG) and night vision imaging systems (NVIS) to satisfy FAA AC 150/5345-43J infrared certification requirements — increasingly a procurement requirement for sites near military training airspace.

Surge immunity is rated to 25kA, a figure Flash Technology cites as sufficient to withstand 99% of direct lightning strike events — a critical field-reliability metric given turbine hub-height exposure. The unit's Aircraft Detection Lighting System (ADLS) interface port allows integration with radar-based detection systems from suppliers such as Detect and Terma, enabling light activation only when aircraft are in range. IP66 ingress protection covers the full range of operational climates, including the high-humidity coastal and desert environments common across GCC wind resource zones.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Primary aircraft warning light on wind turbines up to 699 ft rotor tip height
  • Retrofitting into existing nacelles where controller space is constrained
  • Wind farm sites near military airspace requiring NVG/infrared compliance
  • Installations requiring ADLS radar integration for demand-based activation
  • Multi-turbine wind farm builds requiring GPS-synchronised simultaneous flashing
  • High-lightning-strike exposure sites where 25kA surge tolerance is specified
