The Hytera PT580H Plus is a portable TETRA terminal engineered for environments where voice clarity, personal-safety functions and regulatory-grade encryption must coexist in a device a ground operator can carry through a shift. It operates in both Trunked Mode (TMO) and Direct Mode (DMO), and can act as an ETSI Type 1A DMO Repeater to extend coverage into apron blind-spots — a capability that matters at large hub airports where infrastructure reach is uneven.

On the ramp, in hangars, and across terminal airside corridors, the PT580H Plus earns its place through a combination of 3 W RF output, an advanced noise-cancellation audio chip tuned for continuous background noise above 85 dB, and IP65/66/67/68 dust and water sealing per IEC 60529. MIL-STD-810G environmental testing covers shock, vibration, and temperature extremes — the conditions of GCC ramp work in summer are well within its rated envelope.

Safety functions are class-leading for a handheld: integrated GPS (cold-start under 35 seconds), Man Down alert with configurable tilt/no-motion thresholds, and Lone Worker timers address the duty-of-care requirements of dispersed ground staff. Up to 6,000 TMO talk groups and 23 programmable buttons support the multi-department, multi-zone channel plans typical of international airports. Over-the-air programming (OTAP) reduces fleet management overhead across large terminal deployments. The standard 1,800 mAh battery covers a 20-hour shift; a 2,500 mAh option is available for extended operations or device-sharing environments.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Airside ground-handling coordination — pushback, fuelling, marshalling and baggage teams on the same TETRA trunked network
  • Airport security and perimeter patrol where Man Down and Lone Worker alarms are a statutory or operational requirement
  • Emergency response integration — interoperability with airport ARFF and medical teams via encrypted group calls
  • Large hub airports requiring DMO Repeater mode to fill infrastructure coverage gaps on the apron
  • Fleet deployments under an OTAP-managed maintenance regime, reducing device downtime during firmware and channel-plan updates
  • GCC and Middle East airports adopting or expanding TETRA infrastructure as the mission-critical standard
