The IWT.801.APB.05 is inewatt's LED-source aviation signal light gun, the instrument through which air traffic controllers issue visual light signals to aircraft and ground vehicles when radio communication is unavailable, degraded, or deliberately avoided for security or training reasons. ICAO Annex 2 and national ATS procedures define the standard colour-signal vocabulary: steady green for clearance, steady red for prohibition, flashing combinations for conditional instructions — all of which this unit can deliver in either continuous or morse-code pattern modes, selectable by the operator. Three independently switchable LED colours — white (20,000 cd), red (14,000 cd), and green (11,500 cd) — provide the regulated intensity that ICAO standards require for daytime and night-time visibility. The effective range of 6.6 km covers the geometry of all but the largest airport surfaces, and the integral optical scope allows the controller to aim precisely at a specific aircraft on a crowded apron or distant taxiway. The IP67 rating makes the unit impervious to dust and rain — relevant both on the tower cab and in airside ground-operations roles. Battery autonomy of 8 hours enables sustained operation through a full operational shift or through a ground power failure without interruption. The 110/230 VAC input accepts the full range of tower power supply standards found across MENA and GCC installations. At 2.8 kg, the unit is genuinely hand-portable rather than desk-fixed, allowing rapid repositioning between tower windows or deployment to a remote stand control position. LED source rated at 60,000 hours eliminates the lamp-change events that previously made halogen ALDIS maintenance an operational nuisance.

Best for

Use cases.

  • ATC tower visual signalling when radio communication fails or is suspended
  • Ground movement control for vehicles and aircraft at aerodromes without tower radio coverage
  • Backup signalling during communications outage events at any ICAO-certified aerodrome
  • Training exercises requiring controlled light-gun-only circuit operations
  • Remote stand or apron control positions where portable, battery-independent signalling is needed
