PAPI Halogen (IWT.650.PP.02)
Four-box halogen PAPI delivering a certified white-to-red glide path signal for runways where LED power infrastructure is not yet available.
The IWT.650.PP.02 is inewatt's halogen-source Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI), providing continuous visual glide slope guidance during the final approach phase of landing. A standard PAPI installation comprises four of these units positioned at a fixed setback from the runway threshold on the left-hand side; the distribution of white versus red signals visible to the pilot encodes the aircraft's position relative to the design glide path, enabling immediate corrective action without reference to instruments. Each unit houses two 200 W halogen lamps operating in parallel on the 6.6 A series circuit, producing a red beam at 17,900 cd and a clear (white) beam at 85,000 cd. Critically, the white-to-red transition is engineered to occur within less than 3 arc-minutes of angular spread and with an intensity ratio below 3:1 across the beam width — the tight transition zone is the fundamental safety characteristic that gives PAPI its precise annunciation. Hardened front glass protects the optical assembly against FOD impact and debris ingestion common on active runways. The halogen variant suits airports with existing CCR infrastructure where a full LED retrofit is deferred, or where procurement policy favours proven technology over longer lamp-change intervals. Operating temperature range spans −55°C to +55°C, and the IP44 rating provides dust and splash resistance adequate for the covered optical housing. At a lamp life of approximately 3,000 hours in field service, lamp change planning is straightforward within routine maintenance windows. Compliant with ICAO Annex 14 Volume I photometric requirements.
