The Examiner 3DX-ES (Enhanced Speed) is the high-throughput derivative of the Examiner 3DX inline explosive detection system. It retains the same 3-D Continuous Flow CT gantry, detection algorithms, software stack, and physical footprint as the baseline 3DX while elevating sustained conveyor throughput from 550 to 750 bags per hour. The performance gain is achieved through optimised belt-speed control and an optional metre-wide entrance tunnel that smooths bag presentation at higher flow rates, reducing the jam-rate penalty that typically offsets rated throughput gains in dense inline configurations.

The 3DX-ES is positioned for primary inline HBS lanes at large hub airports and busy terminal piers where peak-hour bag volumes — driven by narrowbody turn-arounds stacking in the same 60-minute window — routinely push conventional EDS units into queue-build. At 750 BPH the system has enough headroom to absorb these peaks without diverting bags to a secondary EDS, which would add latency and staffing cost. TSA certification to both 100% and 75% threat-mass standards, plus EU Standard 3 compliance, means the 3DX-ES satisfies the dual-certification demands that appear in most GCC airport security tenders — particularly where the authority references both ECAC Doc 30 and FAA Advisory Circular frameworks.

For a procurement engineer the key differentiator versus the base 3DX is straightforward: same certified detection performance, higher sustained lane capacity. Because spare parts and technician qualifications transfer directly between the two models, an airport that deploys a mix of 3DX and 3DX-ES units — slower lanes for early-morning off-peak, higher-speed lanes for peak piers — carries a single-platform inventory. The 3DX-ES also supports networked integration with Leidos' ProSight enterprise screening management platform.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Primary inline HBS lanes at large hub airports where peak bag-per-hour demand exceeds the capacity of the base 3DX
  • High-density piers handling multiple simultaneous narrowbody turn-arounds within the same make-up window
  • Tenders requiring TSA and EU Standard 3 dual certification with throughput above 550 BPH
  • Mixed-estate deployments alongside 3DX units to maintain a single spare-parts and training platform
  • Integration with ProSight enterprise screening management for centralised lane monitoring and alarm resolution
