Examiner 3DX
High-throughput inline CT explosives detection system developed in collaboration with the TSA for airports of all sizes.
The Examiner 3DX is a fully automated inline Explosive Detection System (EDS) built around Leidos' proprietary 3-D Continuous Flow computed tomography architecture. The scanner acquires helical CT data while baggage moves continuously on the conveyor belt — there is no start-stop dwell — so scan speed is synchronised directly to belt velocity and bags are imaged in their entirety without gaps or motion blur. The reconstruction engine applies automated explosive detection algorithms to the full 3-D dataset, classifying threats by density and effective atomic number before the bag reaches the downstream sort unit.
In operational terms the Examiner 3DX is sized for inline hold-baggage screening (HBS) integration: it connects to the airport's BHS tray-and-tote or direct-inject conveyor and routes alarmed bags to an automated lane or manual resolution station. At 550 bags per hour it suits mid-size terminals and secondary screening spurs; the system targets greater than 99% operational availability, which keeps lane uptime predictable across high-utilisation shifts.
A procurement engineer will choose the 3DX where TSA and EU Standard 3 dual-certification is a procurement requirement and where the airport's baggage make-up throughput falls below the 750 BPH envelope covered by the enhanced-speed variant. Because the 3DX-ES shares the same gantry footprint and software, operators can specify one platform family across a mixed estate and benefit from common spare-parts inventory, operator training, and maintenance contracts. In GCC hub and regional airports where simultaneous compliance with US, European, and bilateral security agreements is standard procurement language, the 3DX's dual-certification pedigree reduces regulatory risk at acceptance testing.

Use cases.
- ›Inline HBS integration at mid-size and large hub airports requiring TSA and ECAC-equivalent certification
- ›Replacement or capacity augmentation of legacy multi-view X-ray lanes where 100% EDS compliance is mandated
- ›Multi-system inline configurations at airports with parallel baggage make-up carousels
- ›Airports procuring a single EDS platform family (3DX + 3DX-ES) to standardise maintenance and operator training
- ›Terminal expansions where proven field reliability and a >99% availability SLA are contractual requirements
