EasyAirport (BHS IT solution)

EasyAirport is Leonardo Automation's proprietary high-level IT platform for airport Baggage Handling Systems, developed from the company's experience delivering turnkey BHS projects across major international terminals. It forms the software spine of a Leonardo BHS installation, sitting above the field-level PLC layer and below the airport's DCS and DHS systems.

The platform is architected around IATA Recommended Practice 1800, the industry standard for BHS IT management covering outbound, transfer, and inbound baggage flows. Each major process function — flight planning, bag assignment, sortation allocation, reconciliation, and monitoring — is encapsulated in a discrete application module. This modularity matters operationally: new modules can be activated or updated without disrupting the live system, allowing airports to add capability (e.g. IATA Resolution 753 end-to-end bag tracking) without downtime-intensive system replacements.

The platform's core components include a Sorting Allocation Controller (SAC) that manages real-time bag routing decisions, and a SCADA layer that delivers a real-time operational picture of the entire conveyor network — tracking each bag, monitoring component health, issuing alerts, and logging data for performance analytics and predictive maintenance.

For airports integrating Leonardo BHS hardware into a wider airport IT ecosystem, EasyAirport is designed for standard-protocol connectivity to upper-level systems: check-in DCS, departure-control, security reconciliation, and airline BSM feeds. The BRS (Baggage Reconciliation System) module provides the IATA Resolution 753 tracking data that most airports now require.
