Motorola WAVE PTX
Cloud-managed push-to-talk over cellular that extends radio coordination to smartphones, tablets, and LTE devices without radio infrastructure investment.
Motorola WAVE PTX is a subscription-based push-to-talk-over-cellular (PoC) platform that routes voice, text, location, and multimedia communications over commercial LTE and Wi-Fi networks, making it a cost-effective extension layer for aviation operations that lack comprehensive private radio coverage or need to include staff who cannot carry licensed radios. The service supports dedicated TLK-series hardware radios — including the rugged TLK 110 portable and the TLK 150 vehicle-mounted unit — as well as smartphones and tablets running the WAVE PTX mobile application, and a web-based dispatch console, all managed through a centralised administration portal.
For airport operators, WAVE PTX addresses several practical gaps: contractors and third-party ground handlers who do not carry site radios can be included in operational talkgroups through their own smartphones; supervisors and management personnel monitoring operations from offices or remote locations maintain push-to-talk presence without dedicated handsets; and airlines with distributed outstations can connect ground staff at multiple airports into a single virtual talkgroup at operational cost proportional to headcount rather than infrastructure.
The TLK 110 hardware radio is IP67-rated, meets MIL-STD-810H, and carries a 2,500 mAh battery rated for 18 hours of operation — making it viable for a full ground handling shift. All voice traffic is encrypted with AES-256. GPS location data is surfaced through the management portal in real time, enabling supervisors to track mobile workers across the apron or terminal. The platform is carrier-independent, operating across any available LTE network, which is particularly relevant for GCC airports where domestic operator coverage on the apron is generally strong across Etisalat, du, STC, and Ooredoo networks.
