Norduyn half-size galley cart
The world's lightest certified half-size galley trolley — an all-composite cart weighing under 10 kg that makes bar service and duty-free rounds measurably lighter for cabin crew.
Norduyn's half-size galley cart is the compact companion to the N9000 full-size, built from the same all-composite monocoque platform but configured to the ATLAS half-size footprint. At approximately 9.9 kg empty — roughly 40 percent lighter than an aluminium equivalent — it holds the distinction of being the lightest certified half-size catering trolley available, a position Norduyn has defended with successive composite-engineering iterations since airworthiness certification was achieved in 2010. The cart is dimensionally compliant with ATLAS half-size standards (approximately 300 mm wide, 400 mm deep, 640 mm tall), accepting standard half-size ATLAS drawers and inserts. The composite shell meets FAR 25.853 FST requirements and the OSU 65/65 heat release standard using non-halogenated flame-retardant materials — a regulatory baseline common to all commercial cabin equipment. Dry-ice retention is significantly better than aluminium due to the lower thermal conductivity of composite panels, reducing waste on short-haul operations where a cold chain must be maintained for the entire round. In practice, the half-size cart is the workhorse of narrowbody cabin service: bar rounds, snack service, duty-free sales, and waste collection on routes where a full-size unit would be impractical in a single-aisle aisle. For GCC low-cost and regional carriers operating A320-family or B737 fleets with tight galley configurations, the weight advantage per trolley accumulates across the fleet — each kilogram saved in galley equipment directly reduces max structural payload or allows an additional revenue-carrying kilogram. The composite body is also RFID-transparent, enabling automated inventory and gate-check workflows used by modern caterers.

Use cases.
- ›Narrowbody bar and beverage service on A320-family and B737 fleet operations
- ›Duty-free cart operations where crew fatigue from heavy trolleys is a consideration
- ›Short-haul and regional routes where cold-chain dry-ice efficiency is cost-sensitive
- ›LCC and charter airline galley fit-outs targeting weight reduction across the cabin
- ›Mixed galley configurations pairing half-size and full-size carts in widebody aft galleys
