LEFL / LIFL LED Flashing Light - Approach, REIL, CGL
Elevated and inset LED flashing light covering sequential approach, REIL, and circling guidance functions with three programmable flash modes.
The LEFL (elevated) and LIFL (inset) are LED flashing lights serving three distinct visual-aid roles: sequential flashing lights (SFL) in approach systems where a strobing 'running rabbit' effect guides pilots down the centreline; Runway End Identification Lights (REIL) that make the runway threshold conspicuous from the air at non-precision aerodromes; and Circling Guidance Lights (CGL) that assist pilots executing visual circling manoeuvres around the aerodrome at night.
Three flash-pattern modes are configurable: sequenced (the classic converging flash sequence of an SFL), contemporary (simultaneous flash across all units, used for REIL), and clustered (a grouped-burst pattern for CGL applications). This programmability means a single fixture model can fulfil what are operationally and physically distinct roles at different points on the aerodrome, reducing procurement complexity.
The system is driven by an FMCU (Flash Mode Control Unit) drawing 25 W, with each LEFL unit drawing 52 W — a higher continuous load than steady-burning approach lights because of the flash-duty-cycle peak-current requirement. Three luminous levels (high at 100%, medium at 10%, low at 3%) provide daytime/night intensity control per ICAO Annex 14 requirements.
The housing geometry — 144 mm wide, minimum 400 mm height in the elevated configuration — is consistent with OCEM's LERA series, allowing the same mounting infrastructure to be used across both elevated approach and flashing-light positions. Standards coverage includes ICAO, IEC, EASA, STANAG, CASA, and ENAC.
