LEMIRL LED Elevated Medium Intensity Runway Light
IP68-rated elevated medium-intensity runway light engineered for near-maintenance-free operation across FAA L-861 and international standards.
The LEMIRL is OCEM's elevated medium-intensity runway light (MIRL), designed as the above-ground complement to inset fixtures for runways where pavement cutting is impractical or where elevated fittings are operationally preferred. Rated to IP68, the housing withstands continuous immersion — a specification level that exceeds what most elevated fixtures carry and is directly relevant to airports with drainage challenges, flood-prone aprons, or coastal-wash exposure.
The unit covers the principal FAA fixture standards in a single platform: L-861 (standard runway edge), L-861E (energy-efficiency variant), and L-861 SE (solar/self-contained edge), as well as AP-170 (Australian standard) and CASA MOS Part 139. This breadth means the same physical fixture can be specified across mixed-regulation environments without separate procurement categories.
Height is selectable — 14, 20, 24, or 30 inches — allowing airport engineers to choose frangible mounting geometry that matches runway-strip obstacle-clearance requirements. Low power draw (from 9.1 VA in L-861E configuration) reduces total load on the constant-current regulator circuit, enabling more fixtures per CCR step or a smaller CCR where power infrastructure is a constraint.
An optional Arctic Kit adds thermostatically controlled heating to prevent lens and optical-surface obstruction in sub-zero conditions. A built-in monitoring option provides real-time open-circuit alerting to the ALCMS or third-party control system, supporting the fault-detection latency requirements of CAT I/II operations.

Use cases.
- ›Runway edge lighting on aerodromes where inset pavement cutting is not feasible
- ›Coastal, flood-prone, or high-humidity airport environments requiring IP68 protection
- ›Mixed-regulation airports spanning FAA, Australian AP-170, and CASA standards
- ›Airport LED conversion projects where reduced CCR loading is a design objective
- ›Cold-climate installations requiring optional thermostatically controlled lens heating
