LIRE LED Inset Runway Edge Light
12-inch inset LED runway edge light rated for ICAO CAT I/II/III operations with over 100,000-hour service life.
The LIRE is a 12-inch diameter inset LED fixture that delineates the lateral boundaries of a runway, replacing traditional series-wired halogen units while drawing a fraction of the electrical load. Mounted flush to the pavement surface with just 6.35 mm of protrusion, it protects aircraft tyres and avoids the FOD risk of taller fittings.
The fixture covers the full spectrum of certified operations: ICAO CAT I, II, and III instrument runways, FAA-certificated commercial and general-aviation aerodromes, and military airfield standards including NATO STANAG. Both unidirectional and bidirectional optical configurations are available, making the same housing suitable for runway-edge applications where the returning aircraft direction must be lit differently from the departing direction.
Procurement engineers choose the LIRE over competing inset products primarily for its CCR compatibility: the unit is designed to work with any constant-current regulator topology that meets IEC or FAA wiring standards, giving airport infrastructure teams freedom to retain existing series-circuit infrastructure during LED migration rather than replacing power equipment simultaneously.
In hot, dusty GCC environments the standard unit runs at 31 VA unidirectional — dramatically lower heat rejection than halogen counterparts — while an Arctic Kit option adds thermostatically controlled heating for airports in northern or high-altitude climates where ice obstruction of the prism is a certification risk. An optional monitoring module reports LED-source or control-board open-circuit failures directly back to the airfield lighting control system, supporting the remote-fault visibility required on CAT II/III runways.
