The OCEM LED PAPI is a Precision Approach Path Indicator system providing pilots with a colour-coded visual glide slope reference on final approach. Each light housing unit (LHA) projects a split red/white beam: an aircraft on the correct glide path sees half the PAPI boxes showing red and half showing white; high shows more white, low shows more red. The sharpness of the red/white transition line directly determines how precisely a pilot can identify and correct glide-path deviations, and OCEM claims the sharpest transition of any LED PAPI in the market — a claim supported by third-party photometric certification by Intertek against FAA AC 150/5345-28H Style A Class I.

Three configuration tiers cover the full airport range: a 4-box ICAO/FAA L-880 system for primary commercial runways, a 2-box FAA L-881 system for general aviation and shorter runways, and a 2-box APAPI configuration for aerodromes where a simplified abbreviated system is appropriate. Power inputs support CCR series-circuit (Style B, 6.6A at 3 or 5 step), standalone AC mains (90–264 VAC), and DC battery (21–28 VDC) — the DC option enabling solar-powered or battery-backed installations at remote aerodromes with unreliable grid power, directly relevant to new GCC airfield developments.

The visual and infrared optics options serve both civil approach operations and military night-vision-goggle (NVG) operations respectively. Both portable and permanent mounting configurations are available, supporting expeditionary military airfields and temporary flight operations as well as permanent commercial installations.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Primary glide-slope visual guidance on commercial CAT I/II runways at international airports
  • General aviation and regional airports requiring 2-box FAA L-881 or APAPI systems
  • Military aerodromes requiring infrared NVG-compatible optics
  • Remote or solar-powered aerodromes using DC-input configuration
  • Portable or expeditionary airfield operations requiring rapid deployment and repositioning
  • Airport PAPI replacement programmes where glide-path transition sharpness is a safety driver
