Used as a universal binder it absorbs oils, fuels and a very wide range of chemicals within seconds, on natural and artificial surfaces and on water. Because it is hydrophobic it floats and does not take up water, and its low own-weight keeps disposal costs low; saturated material can also be thermally recovered for energy.
