The OTT Parsivel2 (70.210.002.3.0) is a laser disdrometer that measures the size and fall speed of precipitation particles using a laser-extinction band and classifies them into 32 size and 32 velocity classes per WMO. From this it derives precipitation type, intensity, kinetic energy, visibility in precipitation and equivalent radar reflectivity, distinguishing drizzle, rain, hail and snow.
