RS 400 Performance Line Runway Sweeper

The RS 400 Performance Line is the lead model in Øveraasen's RS series — the machine against which the RS 200 and RS 600 are positioned in the range. It delivers a 5,500 mm clearing width at 32° and a theoretical capacity of 358,000 m²/h, achieved at the rated working speed of 65 km/h. In practical airfield terms, this translates to the ability to clear a standard 3,500 m × 45 m runway in well under ten minutes as part of a coordinated fleet sweep. The power plant is a Volvo Penta TAD 1183VE (EU Stage V / EPA Tier 4f), producing 315 kW (425 HP) at 1,700 rpm. The dedicated blower drives 40,000 m³/h of air at 150 m/s through the ejection nozzle — sufficient to move wet or compacted snow off pavement in a single pass. The brush system (1,170 mm diameter, 0–720 rpm, steel or polyurethane) includes automatic adjustment, and control architecture is the proven Danfoss Plus1 platform shared across the RS series. The RS 400 sits between the single-engine RS 200 and the twin-brush RS 600 in terms of both capital cost and clearing rate, making it the most common choice for medium-to-large international airports that need high throughput without the full capital and logistical footprint of the RS 600. A 1,000-litre fuel tank enables extended multi-hour sorties without field refuelling. For airports in the GCC region managing occasional winter events or expanding into mixed-use airfields where sustained sweeping operations are required, the RS 400 offers a well-proven performance-to-operating-cost ratio.
