The Pteris Global Carousel is a continuous-loop belt conveyor designed to present arriving baggage to passengers in the reclaim hall or to serve as a manual make-up surface on the apron side. Contoured rubber or stainless steel flights form the rotating surface, receiving bags either directly from a feeding conveyor or by manual placement from ground handlers.

Two physical types are offered: inclined carousels, which present bags on a sloped face that slides items outward to the claim edge under gravity, and flat carousels, where the belt surface is horizontal. Claim-side units use 304 stainless steel on all passenger-exposed surfaces, providing both corrosion resistance for high-humidity terminal environments and the hygienic, premium-finish appearance expected in international terminals. Apron-side make-up carousels use mild steel cladding. Plan configurations — O-shape, U-shape, T-shape, and L-shape — allow the footprint to be adapted to reclaim hall geometry without compromising claim perimeter length.

Drive components are sized for the live load at rated speed and specified for long-life 24-hour per day operation, consistent with the continuous-duty demands of a high-frequency international hub. At Changi Airport Terminal 3, Pteris Global supplied 22 carousels (including 8 claim carousels) as part of a 16,400-bag-per-hour BHS. The carousel is the final controlled touchpoint in the baggage journey and a failure here directly affects passenger experience; the heavy-duty, low-maintenance design reflects that operational criticality. GCC airports processing high volumes of wide-body inbound flights benefit from longer O-shape or U-shape configurations that maximise simultaneous passenger access.
