The Flight Allocation Management System (FAMS) is Pteris Global's operational planning tool for airport resource managers responsible for assigning conveyor sort lanes, check-in desk banks, and baggage make-up positions to specific flights ahead of each operating day. It functions as the pre-sort planning layer that feeds allocation data into the PALS sortation management suite, ensuring that the physical BHS equipment is configured correctly before the first bags arrive.

Allocation can be performed manually by a supervisor, loaded from pre-defined templates for recurring flight patterns, or executed automatically when FAMS is interfaced with a Flight Information Display System (FIDS). In automatic mode, any change to a flight schedule — gate swap, delay, cancellation — is immediately reflected in the resource allocation table, triggering re-sort instructions to the active PALS sort plan without requiring human intervention. This closed-loop between flight data and physical BHS configuration reduces the risk of mis-sortation caused by last-minute schedule changes, which is the primary source of baggage mishandling events tracked under IATA Resolution 753.

The Gantt chart interface presents all active and upcoming flight allocations on a timeline, enabling operations staff to identify resource conflicts — two flights simultaneously competing for the same sort lane — and resolve them before bags begin arriving. FAMS is a module within the broader PALS ecosystem and is typically deployed alongside PALS SAC Enterprise at major hub airports where flight movements are dense and schedule volatility requires automated response. For GCC hubs running high frequencies of wide-body departures on compressed turn-around schedules, automatic FIDS integration is the operationally realistic configuration.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Pre-flight resource planning — assigning sort lanes and check-in banks to flight schedules
  • Automatic re-allocation when flight schedules change in real time via FIDS feed
  • Conflict resolution between flights competing for the same BHS sort destination
  • Template-driven allocation for high-frequency recurring routes
  • Operational planning at hub airports with dense narrow-window departure schedules
