The Pteris Global High Speed Diverter is a powered bi-plow sorting unit used within baggage handling systems to redirect individual items from a primary transport conveyor onto adjacent parallel, perpendicular, or 45-degree diverging conveyor lanes. Two diverter blade arms, each fitted with a powered belt, apply a controlled transverse force to each item as it passes, guiding it smoothly into the target lane without abrupt impact. Blade swing and positioning are driven by a single motor through a link mechanism, reducing mechanical complexity and minimising failure modes.

The unit handles the full range of baggage types — standard suitcases, oversize items, and irregularly shaped pieces such as golf bags — without requiring shape-specific adjustments. A proven software algorithm governs timing and blade actuation, synchronising divert decisions with upstream bag-tracking data to maintain sortation accuracy at throughput rates up to 60 bags per minute, as demonstrated in Pteris Global's Changi Airport Terminal 3 deployment where 16 units supported inter-terminal transfers within three minutes at 16,400 bags per hour processing capacity.

The diverter is suited to high-volume departure sortation zones, fallback routing configurations, and load-balancing between redundant conveyor paths. Its quiet operation and zero-impact handling profile make it appropriate for close-clearance installations typical of constrained below-ground reclaim halls and tight mid-pier baggage rooms. For GCC airports managing multi-aircraft pushes on wide-body gates — where peak-hour divert rates can compress into narrow windows — this class of unit is the standard sortation point in IATA-compliant BHS designs.
