Sepura STP8X000 (ATEX / IECEx)
Intrinsically safe ATEX and IECEx-certified TETRA radio built for potentially explosive atmospheres — the only Sepura portable approved for fuel zones, de-icing bays, and chemical-handling areas.
The STP8X000 is Sepura's intrinsically safe hand-portable TETRA radio, holding both ATEX and IECEx certifications for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres (Ex ia). This certification is the defining characteristic that distinguishes it from the SC2 family: where other Sepura portables are excluded from fuel-handling zones, de-icing fluid storage, and any area classified under ATEX Zone 0, 1, or 2, the STP8X000 is explicitly designed and certified for safe operation there.
At 61 × 139 × 44 mm and 338 g it is larger than the SC21 but still genuinely portable. It operates on UHF bands (380–430 MHz and 407–473 MHz) at Class 4 RF power (1 W), a deliberate limitation to keep electrical energy within intrinsically safe limits — adequate for airside coverage when the TETRA infrastructure is appropriately designed. The IP67-rated housing survives immersion to 1 m and the full-keypad layout supports TETRA Direct Mode, group calls, emergency calls, and Man-Down — the tilt/motion monitoring function that triggers an over-the-air alarm if the user stops moving, critical for lone workers in fuel farms or cargo-handling areas.
For airports and aviation fuel operators in the GCC — where aircraft refuelling volumes are among the highest in the world and site density is extreme — the STP8X000 fills a compliance gap that no standard TETRA radio can address. Procurement teams should verify the precise ATEX zone classification of their hazardous areas against the device's certification before specifying; the STP8X000 is the reference Sepura product for this requirement.
