Illuminated Wind Direction Indicator (Windsock / Windcone) (Signalight-made)
ICAO and FAA-compliant illuminated aviation windsock with LED lighting, photocell-activated automatic night operation, and a corrosion-resistant stainless steel pole on a hinged base.
The illuminated wind direction indicator — commonly called a windsock or windcone — is a mandatory safety installation at every aerodrome and heliport conducting night operations under both ICAO Annex 14 and FAA regulations. Signalight's unit provides pilots with real-time, ground-truth wind direction and a qualitative indication of wind speed throughout all phases of approach and departure, a cue that remains operationally essential even at airports with full digital meteorological systems. The Signalight windsock assembly consists of a lightweight polyester fabric cone 2.4 m in length with a 0.6 m larger-diameter entry ring, carried on a stainless steel pole with a hinged base to allow rapid cone replacement without specialist tooling. The hinge pivot incorporates a precision rotation mechanism that allows the assembly to track direction changes freely without tangling around the mast. Illumination is selectable between internal LED projection and external LED projectors, allowing the buyer to match the installation geometry and sightline requirements of the specific aerodrome layout. A junction box with an integrated photocell switches the lighting circuit and an obstruction light on the mast top automatically at dusk and off at dawn, removing the need for manual control. Pole height with a frangible coupling system is up to 3 m, satisfying ICAO frangibility requirements. The unit is certified to ICAO Annex 14 Volume I (airport) and Volume II (heliport) requirements. Fabric is made from UV-resistant polyester that retains its high-visibility colouring — aviation orange or red-and-white banding — across extended service in direct GCC sunlight.

Use cases.
- ›Mandatory night-operations wind indicator at commercial airports, regional aerodromes, and heliports
- ›Rooftop hospital heliports where compact frangible mounting is required by aerodrome design rules
- ›Offshore and coastal facilities requiring corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction
- ›Desert and high-UV environments where conventional fabric cones fade and require frequent replacement
- ›Aerodromes seeking to reduce operational workload via photocell-automated lighting with no manual switching
