Scott Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA
Current-generation NFPA 1981 2018-edition SCBA with Bluetooth telemetry, sub-30 lb carry weight, and lifetime warranty — the benchmark for modern structural and ARFF fire service.
The 3M Scott Air-Pak X3 Pro is the company's flagship open-circuit SCBA designed to meet NFPA 1981 and NFPA 1982, 2018 Edition — the editions mandated by the FAA for Part 139-certificated airports under AC 150/5210-14. It is built around three stated engineering priorities: cleanability, comfort, and connectivity.
The heat-treated 6061-T6 aluminium alloy backframe weighs 1.61 lb and the full backframe-with-harness assembly is 4.76 lb — lighter than prior generations and central to the X3 Pro's complete-system weights of 25.77 lb (4500 psig, 30-min carbon cylinder) through 33.98 lb (4500 psig, 60-min carbon cylinder). The 5.5 cylinder technology option increases cylinder pressure to 5500 psig while reducing cylinder weight by approximately 11% and diameter by 8–9% versus equivalent 4500 psig cylinders, allowing a 75-minute-rated configuration where operational protocol permits. A Snap-Change cylinder valve enables rapid field swap.
Connectivity is via Bluetooth-enabled SEMS II Pro telemetry: the ePAR (electronic Personnel Accountability Report) delivers bidirectional air-status and PASS communication to incident command through Monitor Pro software. System Integrity Alarm monitors electronics temperature and warns of thermal degradation before failure. Buddy Lights on the backframe give 360-degree PASS and air-status visibility to adjacent crew. RFID tags support asset tracking and DOT cylinder compliance logging.
The removable harness (Armor AP outer shell, Kevlar/Nomex webbing) is machine-washable, addressing exposure-reduction protocols that are increasingly standard in ARFF and structural departments. Facepiece options are the Vision C5 (with E-Z Flo C5 regulator) or the AV-3000 HT — both NFPA 1981/1982 2018 Edition compliant. All CBRN-approved configurations carry NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84 approvals across the full pressure/duration matrix.
