DNA 6 Modular Seating

DNA 6 is a modular lounge seating system designed by Sergio Bicego and manufactured by Altek Italia Design. The system comprises six seat units — three larger and three smaller — whose interlocking organic forms allow the group to be divided, regrouped, and reassembled into multiple distinct spatial arrangements from the same physical stock. This mutability addresses a practical airport requirement: large terminal open-plan areas frequently need to be repurposed for events, increased capacity, or revised circulation, and bolt-fixed furniture becomes an obstacle.

The assembled six-seat configuration occupies a 350 cm × 210 cm footprint at 74 cm overall height, with a 45 cm seat height consistent with standard waiting-room ergonomics. Total weight of 180 kg net (200 kg gross) is heavy enough to remain stable without floor anchoring in normal use, while still being within the capability of a small facilities team to reposition.

The plinth base is MDF with a laminate edge trim in brushed aluminium colour, providing an upmarket material presentation consistent with premium zone or business lounge positioning. Upholstery is synthetic leather or fabric across a multi-colour range, with the supplier confirming fire-resistant material specification across the DNA family. The curved, organic silhouette creates a central-island visual anchor in open concourses — a deliberate contrast to perimeter beam seating — and the meeting-area configuration option allows adjacent modules to face inward, serving small group discussions or family clusters as well as individual waiting.

For GCC terminal projects, the 6-unit family is particularly suited to the large, column-free central floors characteristic of the region's mega-hub terminal expansions, where oversized open areas benefit from island furniture that defines sub-zones without permanent partition.
