BURRI Public Elements designs and manufactures indoor seating systems for high-traffic public waiting environments, drawing on more than 120 years of Swiss public-space furniture experience. The product range spans conventional bench-and-chair configurations through to the SurfBench — a kinetic wave-motion bench explicitly positioned for airport departure lounges, train station concourses, hotel foyers, and gallery waiting areas. The SurfBench converts passenger-generated kinetic energy into a smooth, self-propagating wave motion along the seat elements, requiring no motor or electrical supply. The mechanism is fully passive, operating through inherent physical laws, and the symmetric birch-plywood seat elements can be used from either side without increasing the floor footprint versus a standard bench. Structurally, units are built from clear-lacquered European birch plywood on a powder-coated steel subframe, designed for high-cycle interior use with all constructive elements serviceable and individually replaceable to maximise operational lifespan. Beyond the SurfBench line, BURRI's broader transit-infrastructure portfolio — deployed at reference projects including Glattalbahn (44 tram stops with full platform infrastructure) and the Zurich Airport forecourt — covers larch-timber platform benches, City Bench A/V-type variants, inclusion-compliant seating, and integration into stop-infrastructure packages (HSI® ZERO/ONE/TWO shelters) that combine seating, lighting, DFI displays, waste receptacles, and cycle storage under a single general-contractor mandate.
