The DABICO FMT Commuter Bridge is a purpose-built passenger walkway for airports serving commuter and regional turboprop aircraft — aircraft types that board via built-in airstairs rather than a standard door sill that a conventional boarding bridge cab can seal against. The bridge rotates around a fixed pivot point at the terminal building and extends a telescoping tunnel to position its open end as close as possible to the foot or head of the aircraft stair, providing weather protection for passengers walking between the gate and the aircraft in rain, wind, or snow.

The rotational design allows the aircraft to push back (or power-out under its own turboprop thrust) without the bridge needing to retract far — the geometry of a pivot-mounted rotating arm naturally clears the aircraft taxi path once the tunnel is retracted to its shortest extension. This supports the power-in-power-out stand operations typical at regional terminals where tug availability or apron space rules out conventional pushback.

FMT offers the Connect Commuter as an enhanced variant: instead of stopping at the top of the stair, a large flexible bellows section extends down over the aircraft staircase itself, enclosing the full stair in a weather-protected passage. This eliminates the outdoor exposure gap that remains with a standard commuter bridge regardless of how closely the tunnel is positioned to the stair.

Deployments are confirmed in Denmark, Germany, and the United Kingdom — primarily at airports with significant ATR, Dash 8, and similar regional turboprop traffic. For Gulf airports managing charter or feeder turboprop routes in the summer heat and sandstorm season, the enclosed bellows variant provides passenger comfort comparable to a conventional enclosed bridge.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Regional terminals handling ATR, Dash 8, or similar airstair-boarding turboprop aircraft
  • Low-traffic airports without infrastructure for conventional door-sealing boarding bridges
  • Stands where power-in-power-out operations are standard and pushback tug availability is limited
  • Airports in harsh-weather climates requiring full weather protection during stair boarding
  • GCC feeder routes operating commuter aircraft where summer heat and sand exposure affects passenger experience at stand
