Ersel's COD/PAD dolly series covers both the container dolly (COD, for LD-type ULDs) and pallet dolly (PAD, for 96 × 125-inch pallets) variants, manufactured on hot-dip galvanised steel chassis with solid rubber tyres and tow-bar-activated brakes. These are passive towed units — they form the train behind a tug transporting ULDs and pallets between the aircraft hold and the warehouse or sorting area. The COD LD1/LD3 is the narrow-body workhorse. With a chassis of 1,760 × 2,300 mm and a load capacity of 1,800 kg, it handles the LD1 and LD3 containers that load the belly holds of A320-family and B737-series aircraft. The roller bed — 28 galvanised rollers arranged in three rows — allows a single operator to slide a full LD3 onto the deck without lifting equipment. A 360-degree turntable enables the container to be rotated to the correct door-entry orientation on the ramp, reducing positioning time at the aircraft hold. Turntable rotation is a standard but operationally critical feature: without it, an improperly oriented ULD must be physically repositioned at the hold entrance, adding time under a time-critical gate. The PAD series targets wide-body pallet operations. The PAD 96 × 125 TT (4-axle turntable variant) handles PAG, PMC, and PLA pallets at 6,800 kg, while the PAD 96 × 125 C (2-axle castor variant) rates to 7,000 kg on a more compact footprint. Both use galvanised roller decks matched to standard ULD pallet runners. The choice between TT and C configuration typically turns on train length management at congested cargo terminals versus manoeuvring simplicity on the ramp.

Best for

Use cases.

  • LD3/LD1 ULD transport in belly-hold narrow-body operations (A320, B737)
  • Wide-body pallet train operations (B777, B787, A330) using PAD TT or C variants
  • Cargo terminal dolly pools requiring corrosion-resistant galvanised construction for humid or coastal ramp environments
  • High-cycle cargo handling lines where roller-deck design reduces manual positioning effort
  • Multi-airline handler fleets specifying a common dolly standard across mixed fleet types
