The D-LUX is Flight Light's full-range LED airfield guidance sign product line, ETL-certified to FAA AC 150/5345-44 under Engineering Brief 67 and available in all FAA types (Y — mandatory instruction, L — location, R — runway designation, B — boundary) across sizes 1, 2, 3, and 5. It was developed as the first complete LED L-858 sign line covering every FAA size and type from a single supplier, enabling an airport to standardise its entire sign estate on one system.

The sign face is formed from precisely moulded acrylic panels set in a stainless steel modular frame. The frame system uses tool-free stainless fasteners throughout, allowing legend panels to be swapped for taxiway reconfiguration or sign rehabilitation without specialist tooling — a meaningful operational advantage on busy international aprons where sign change work must happen during short maintenance windows. Size 3 signs ship with a factory-fitted 3/8-inch Herculene acrylic panel for jet blast resistance, relevant at Category C and D runways.

LED technology cuts energy consumption up to 80 percent versus incandescent-based signs while delivering tighter beam control: reduced bloom and ground splash make the legend easier to acquire from a moving aircraft or vehicle. Traditional incandescent signs with up to 12 lamps can demand more than 50 re-lamp events per year per sign; the D-LUX eliminates this cycle, freeing airfield maintenance personnel from frequent apron excursions that themselves represent a safety exposure.

Class 2, Mode 2 rating confirms compatibility with step-regulated series lighting circuits. Single and double-face configurations are standard; options include lamp-out indicator, view port, on/off switch, and external power cord.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Mandatory instruction signs (red/white) identifying runway hold positions and critical intersections
  • Location signs (yellow/black) identifying taxiway and runway designators
  • Full airfield sign upgrade programmes requiring a single ETL-certified product line across all sign types
  • Taxiway reconfiguration projects requiring fast legend changes without specialist tooling
  • Category C/D runways and wide-body jet routes where jet blast resistance is required (Size 3)
  • Airports reducing maintenance labour exposure by eliminating frequent apron re-lamping visits
