LED Taxiway Edge Light (FAA L-861T)
Die-cast aluminium LED taxiway edge light with blue glass lens, ETL-certified to FAA L-861T, designed for direct installation on existing L-867 base plates across 14–30 inch mounting heights.
The Flight Light LED Taxiway Edge Light is a dedicated L-861T-series fixture that delineates the edges of taxiways, enabling pilots to maintain the centreline and avoid pavement excursions during ground movements under all visibility conditions. It is ETL-certified to FAA AC 150/5345-46 (Current Edition) and to Engineering Brief No. 67, and complies with the ICAO Annex 14 intensity requirements for taxiway edge lights. The fixture shares the same die-cast aluminium housing and powder-coat aviation-yellow finish as the broader MIEL family, establishing a consistent form factor for maintenance crews who may need to service a mixed runway/taxiway estate. The blue glass lens is the defining identifier in daylight; the LED source behind it meets the 3-step and 5-step regulator intensity curves without modification. An optional 90–260 VAC input variant is available for isolated taxiway installations not connected to the main series circuit — useful for maintenance areas or remote apron edges — though this variant does not carry the ETL series-circuit certification. Mounting heights of 14, 20, 24, and 30 inches accommodate a wide range of pavement edge profiles and ATC visibility requirements. Both 1.5-inch and 2-inch frangible couplings are available, and the fixture drops directly onto existing L-867 base plates — meaning an airport converting from incandescent to LED does not need to replace underground infrastructure. An optional heater (6.6 A-fed units) addresses ice formation at taxiway edge light recesses during winter operations at temperate airports. For GCC airports, the +55 °C upper operating limit and sealed aluminium construction suit exposed summer ramp conditions; the absence of a lamp replacement cycle reduces the frequency of FOD-risk maintenance visits on active taxiways.
