Medium-Intensity LED Runway Edge Light (MIEL, FAA L-861/L-861T/L-861E)

The FL-861 MIEL (Medium-Intensity Elevated Light) is a die-cast aluminium airfield edge light manufactured to FAA AC 150/5345-46 and ETL-certified for L-861 (runway edge), L-861E (threshold/end), and L-861T (taxiway edge) service — three functions served by configuring the glass lens colour. The housing carries a powder-coat aviation-yellow finish and mounts on a 1.5-inch or 2-inch frangible coupling to a standard L-867 base plate or stake at heights of 14, 24, or 30 inches. In service, the MIEL defines the lateral extent of paved surfaces for pilots during approaches, landing rolls, and ground movements. Blue lens units delineate taxiway edges; clear units mark runway edges; split green/red or clear/red lenses serve threshold and stopend demarcation. A single fixture family supports an entire airfield upgrade programme, simplifying spares logistics. The fixture accepts L-823 series-circuit wiring via a rubberized cord-set connector sealed against insect ingress, running on the 6.6 A constant-current loop standard to all FAA airfield series circuits. An optional heater is available for 6.6 A-fed units at northern locations. The double O-ring sealing system keeps the Fresnel glass lens watertight. For GCC operators the aluminium construction and broad operating temperature ceiling (+55 °C) suit exposed desert ramps; the frangible mount meets both FAA and ICAO frangibility requirements, and the three-in-one certification set makes the product straightforward to specify for airports working to ICAO Annex 14 alongside FAA-advisory standards.
