Recliner seating system
Fixed-recline beam seating with integrated footrest, purpose-built for long-stay and overnight passenger waiting without the maintenance burden of powered mechanisms.
The Recliner is IMAT's solution for passenger areas where dwell times extend into multi-hour or overnight ranges — transfer zones, delayed-flight holding areas, overnight terminals, and premium gate lounges. Unlike powered or manually-adjustable recliners, this system uses a fixed-angle reclined backrest geometry combined with a generous fixed footrest surface, delivering the postural benefit of a recline without any moving parts, actuators, or mechanisms that could fail under airport-volume use.
The seat can be finished in beech wood, or in a combination of beech wood and polyurethane foam padding — the latter adding cushioned comfort while retaining the smooth, warm surface character of the wooden variant. Both finishes present ergonomic shapes validated against biomechanical standards, directing body weight into a position suitable for extended rest without placing strain on the lumbar or neck. The absence of reclining mechanisms also eliminates the housekeeping overhead associated with motorised seat maintenance.
As with the broader IMAT beam range, the Recliner integrates with the same accessory ecosystem: Vit and BCN armrests, Compas base, in-beam power boxes for device charging (critical for passengers on long layovers), and the full table surface range including HPL, aluminium, compact, and wood. The fire-retardant polyurethane padding complies with aviation-environment flammability requirements, and all metallic structural members are non-combustible. This product addresses a genuine gap in airport furniture procurement: the market between standard gate chairs and premium-lounge furniture.

Use cases.
- ›Overnight and long-layover holding areas at 24-hour hub airports where passengers sleep in the terminal
- ›Premium gate-lounge zones where a step up from standard gate chairs is budgeted but fully-motorised lounge chairs are not
- ›Delayed-flight holding rooms and irregular operations (IROPS) waiting areas where passenger welfare obligations apply
- ›International transfer areas serving long-haul connections with minimum connect times of 3+ hours
- ›Airports in markets with high volumes of pilgrimage travel (Hajj/Umrah) requiring extended-rest seating for older passengers
