The TBL 800 is Kalmar Motor's largest towbarless aircraft tractor, purpose-built for the heaviest wide-body aircraft in commercial service. It uses an 800 V lithium-ion battery system driving a 1,000 kW front traction motor, with an optional Stage 5-compliant six-cylinder range extender generator that cuts in automatically when state-of-charge demands it. The result is a tractor that can operate a full shift on battery alone at most major hubs, yet maintains range flexibility at airports where fixed charging infrastructure is limited — a practical advantage in developing and high-tempo Gulf ramp environments. The TBL 800 is used for pushback and high-speed maintenance towing of aircraft from the Boeing 767 through the 747 and 777 series, the A330, A340, A350, and A380. Its 60,000 kg cradle lift capacity and 4,500 mm width bracket the nosegear of the widest aircraft in service. Four-wheel steering gives it a turning radius of 8,820 mm, making it workable on congested aprons where a conventional tractor of equivalent mass would struggle. Onboard chargers accept both 400 V AC and 115 V/400 Hz GPU power, so it can top up from either ground power unit or main apron supply. A key operational trait: the TBL 800 docks to aircraft without raising or shifting the aircraft, and it can dock while a passenger boarding bridge remains connected — directly cutting gate turnaround time. At 42,000 kg dry, it is ballasted by its own drivetrain mass, eliminating the ballast plates common on diesel predecessors. For GCC operators handling A380 and B777X fleets at high-throughput hubs, this is the tier-one tool.
