Norduyn full-size galley cart (N9000 series)
Norduyn's all-composite full-size galley cart — the lightest certified full-size trolley in its class, with a 10-year design life and measurable fuel-burn reduction per flight.
The N9000 series is Norduyn's flagship full-size galley cart: an entirely composite, monocoque-chassis trolley developed in partnership with Spiriant (LSG Sky Chefs) and awarded the Crystal Cabin Award in 2010 in the Greener Cabin, Health and Safety category. The chassis is a single-body shell moulded from fire-retardant composites incorporating Noryl resin in the frame and Ultem resin in extrusion profiles and the door latch — both engineering thermoplastics chosen for low density, UV stability, chemical resistance, and FAR 25.853 FST compliance. The result is roughly 34 percent fewer individual parts than a conventional aluminium trolley and a measured empty weight of approximately 16 kg for the full-size unit, versus the 22–24 kg typical of aluminium equivalents. The cart is built to ATLAS dimensional standards and accommodates the full range of ATLAS-compatible drawers, oven trays, and inserts. A retractable worktable folds flush when not in use and features a recessed rest surface so a removed drawer can be placed safely while loading. A padlock-compatible latch provides passive security without prescribing a specific lock hardware brand. For airline procurement teams, the fuel economics are concrete: Boeing documented approximately 850 kg of weight saving per 747 aircraft when equipping with N9000-series carts, translating to tens of thousands of dollars in annual fuel savings per airframe. Dry-ice consumption is documented at up to four times lower than aluminium carts, which reduces catering waste and cold-chain cost. The composite construction is RFID-transparent, enabling automated gate scanning without removing drawers. With more than 37,000 units in service globally, the N9000 series has demonstrated its MRO footprint and spare-parts availability — a key consideration for GCC airlines operating mixed long-haul fleets.
