HI-SCAN 10080 EDX-2is

The HI-SCAN 10080 EDX-2is is a dual-view, dual-energy X-ray inspection system designed for the automatic detection of explosives in oversize hold baggage and air cargo parcels. Two X-ray sources positioned at perpendicular angles create overlapping images that allow the operator — and the automatic detection algorithm — to resolve objects obscured behind dense material in either single-view projection, eliminating the main weakness of single-source systems when screening packed freight.

The 1,070 mm × 810 mm tunnel handles items too large for standard checkpoint or mid-range hold baggage scanners, and an out-of-gauge version extends object length capacity to 3,800 mm for long cargo items including aircraft parts, equipment cases, and industrial freight. Throughput reaches 1,800 items per hour.

Within the Smiths Detection portfolio, the EDX-2is occupies the position below the CT-based XCT variant: it uses conventional dual-energy X-ray rather than full 3D CT reconstruction, which means it does not meet ECAC EDS Standard 3 for hold baggage but is a widely deployed solution in air cargo screening applications and as a Level 2 alarm resolution scanner in HBS configurations. An optional lithium battery detection module addresses the growing regulatory requirement to identify and flag lithium-ion battery shipments in cargo.

The system operates at 400 VAC and weighs approximately 3,080 kg in standard configuration. For GCC airports and cargo terminals requiring high-throughput oversize screening without the full footprint and cost of CT-based inline systems, it represents the dual-view X-ray tier of the hold baggage and cargo screening market.
