HI-SCAN 5180si
Single-view X-ray checkpoint scanner with XADA multi-energy sensor technology for precise material discrimination.
The HI-SCAN 5180si is a cabin baggage X-ray inspection system designed for airport passenger checkpoints. It uses Smiths Detection's XADA multi-energy sensor array to generate high-resolution images with enhanced material differentiation — distinguishing organic, inorganic, and metallic materials at a fidelity level that reduces false alarm rates and makes operator assessment faster and more reliable.
The system targets mid-tier checkpoint environments: airports, government buildings, and access-control points where CT is not yet mandated or budgeted, but where a step up from basic single-energy X-ray is required to meet tighter threat detection standards or to reduce operator workload. Steel penetration of 35 mm and wire detectability to AWG 40 give it detection depth on par with more expensive systems, while the relatively compact footprint suits retrofits into existing checkpoint lanes.
The 5180si sits below the HI-SCAN 6040 family in the checkpoint portfolio — the 6040-series offers dual-view or CT options for higher-security applications. The 5180si is a practical solution for terminals where a single-view system remains operationally acceptable but image quality must meet current national standard requirements.
For GCC secondary airports and private/VIP terminal checkpoints that are upgrading from older single-energy equipment, the 5180si delivers a measurable improvement in image quality and material discrimination without requiring the civil modifications that heavier CT systems necessitate.
