The Safeaero 220 is a self-propelled aircraft deicer engineered for true single-operator use: one person drives, manoeuvres, and controls the spray boom without leaving the cab. This is distinct from designs that require a second operator at the boom or on the ground, and it has a direct impact on de-icing labour cost per aircraft and on crew safety in winter conditions. The unit's CE certification applies across the full product range.

Aircraft compatibility spans from regional jets through to the Airbus A380 — the full width of commercial and regional operations at any scheduled airline airport. Boom reach is supported by a 32 ft (10 m) ground hose reel for supplementary coverage. A four-mode nozzle control system provides precise fluid placement, reducing overspray waste and glycol surface runoff. Average aircraft completion time is approximately 90 seconds for standard narrowbody configurations, a benchmark that directly determines airport de-icing throughput under departure-hold conditions.

The optional Intellimix system keeps de-icing and anti-icing fluids separate at all circuit temperatures and only blends them at the nozzle, eliminating the flush cycles that consume fluid and time at the start and end of each operation. This reduces operating cost per aircraft and lowers glycol loading on airport drainage systems. An electric variant (Safeaero 220E) is also available, powered by dual 109 kWh lithium batteries (218 kWh total), with a boom nozzle height up to 65.6 ft and a swing reach of 45.9 ft. Stainless-steel tanks are standard across all fuel variants. Tank capacities on the conventional diesel version are up to approximately 3,400 gallons total depending on configuration.
