TUG ALPHA 4
Textron's largest conventional diesel pushback, CE certified and rated to move aircraft up to the A340 and B747.
The TUG ALPHA 4 is designed for the upper end of conventional pushback duty — heavy widebody and four-engine aircraft up to the Airbus A340 and Boeing 747. Its maximum gross vehicle weight of 120,000 lb (approximately 54,000 kg) and maximum drawbar pull of 72,000 lb (approximately 32,659 kg) give it the authority to move the heaviest commercial aircraft in scheduled airline service today. CE certification means the unit is directly procurable for European and Gulf airports with European regulatory alignment without requiring additional compliance assessment.
Operator safety and situational awareness are addressed through a 7 in (17 cm) LCD control system mounted in the cab, which manages the unit's comprehensive electronic braking and safety functions. Electronic braking comes standard, replacing traditional mechanical systems with more consistent, repeatable stopping performance — critical when managing heavy aircraft on sloped or wet ramp surfaces. The ALPHA 4 is a conventional towbar pushback, meaning it operates within the existing towbar/adaptor infrastructure that most major airports have built for B747 and A340 operations.
For Gulf hub operators managing VIP widebody movements, cargo freighters, or high-frequency long-haul operations with B777/B747 and A340 types, the ALPHA 4 provides the correct power-to-weight ratio without oversizing into towbarless territory. Its CE certification is directly relevant for airports that source equipment under European or equivalent procurement frameworks.
