The CAE Simfinity XR Series spans two distinct product tiers: a software-based ground school platform (VSIM and instructor toolbox) and a family of fixed-based hardware flight training devices (FTDs) designated CAE 400XR, 500XR, and 600XR, each qualified to a progressively higher regulatory level.

The VSIM component provides a full PC-based cockpit environment giving trainees access to aircraft systems, FMS logic, and procedure flows equivalent to the 7000XR FFS. The tool suite includes a procedure editor for simulation-driven lesson plans, a classroom controller for networked multi-student environments, a presentation editor for media-rich animated system explanations, and a scenario creator for self-paced interactive exercises. These tools allow a ground school instructor to build structured lessons without specialist software engineering.

The hardware FTD tier culminates in the CAE 600XR, which meets and exceeds ICAO Type 4, FAA Part 60 Level 6 FTD, and EASA II FTD qualification requirements. It incorporates a representative flight deck surround with crew seats, fully tactile cockpit panels at exact geometric positions, and shares the proven simulation model and instructor interface of the 7000XR FFS. An optional CAE Tropos 6000XR collimated visual system with a fully enclosed instructor area elevates the 600XR to the highest fixed-base fidelity available.

For GCC airlines and training academies managing high crew throughput with limited full-motion FFS availability, the Simfinity XR suite provides a cost-effective pathway to type systems knowledge, FMS currency, and SOP assimilation, measurably reducing costly FFS seat time. The 600XR is supported across major commercial transport types including Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 variants, and the shared instructor interface means check pilots transition between fixed-base and full-motion sessions without relearning the tool set.

Best for

Use cases.

  • Initial type familiarisation and ground school for Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 crews
  • FMS proficiency and SOP assimilation before FFS type-rating sessions
  • Systems knowledge validation and recurrent ground training at airline and academy environments
  • Multi-student classroom instruction using networked VSIM stations with instructor-managed scenarios
  • Reducing FFS utilisation cost by completing procedure rehearsal on fixed-base or desktop equipment
  • Regulatory-credit training under FAA Part 60 Level 4–6 and EASA I–II FTD frameworks
