The Gateway V is the video gateway of the Flexnet UGS system - an extended Gateway that connects Flexnet with external network cameras, such as remotely controlled pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) cameras, and radars or other third-party sensors. It contains a storage module and a dedicated processor for video compression and analysis, so external camera feeds are processed at the edge before transmission across the network. Two external units, typically a radar and a camera, can be connected to one Gateway V - and triggered by a sensor alarm, the Gateway V can activate a third-party PTZ to 'slew to cue', providing imagery of the area of interest at the network edge. The Gateway V shares all existing Gateway features, including both radios: the 0.5 W short-range radio meshes with deployed sensors at 1,000 m and the 10 W long-range radio relays sensor data and imagery up to 10 km between gateways. Interfaces include a secondary Ethernet port and a serial input for external devices, plus a USB interface to backbone networks. By connecting an external modem, streaming video can be transmitted over a 3G/4G network, via satellite communication or other backbone IP radio networks; in a network-denied situation or during a covert operation, video is stored locally and retrieved later. All communication is AES-256 encrypted, with GPS self-localisation and anti-tampering. The unit has no internal battery and runs from an external battery, solar panel or fuel cell, suiting fixed or semi-permanent emplacements. It measures 115 x 120 x 170 mm, weighs 2.5 kg, operates from -32 to +71 degrees C and is qualified to MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461. Applications include integrating perimeter PTZ cameras and ground surveillance radars into a single UGS picture at airports, borders and critical infrastructure.
