The GSE-DD is a dual passive-infrared (PIR) unattended ground sensor purpose-built for monitoring two separate paths at once — for example two driveways, gates, trails or access roads — detecting and reporting the direction of travel of vehicles or pedestrians on each path simultaneously. As a PIR-only device it complements Vortex Systems' buried seismic/magnetometer sensors where above-ground infrared detection of movement and direction is the priority. Each of the two sensor channels has independently configurable sensitivity, and a configurable external connector accepts optional contact-closure sensor types for further expansion. Alarms are transmitted over a long-range VHF radio with adjustable RF output power, allowing operators to balance transmission range against battery consumption; one-year battery life supports long-term unattended deployment without maintenance visits. The electronics are housed in a rugged, compact fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate enclosure sealed with a continuous poured-foam gasket for sustained outdoor exposure, and a built-in tamper sensor alerts operators to any interference with the unit. Like other Vortex ground sensors, the GSE-DD reports into the company's VHF receiver, repeater and base-station ecosystem and can be monitored through the Alert View mapping application, which provides offline mapping, real-time visual and auditory alerts, and email/SMS messaging.
